More info from Seydel President

Well, it´s actually one instrument, with two keys in it  that goes over three octaves.   It is actually a category in itself, because it´s NOT a chromatic harmonica ( but actually two diatonic instruments). However, it´s also NOT an octave harmonica or also NOT a tremolo harmonica.

Even if it looks like a chromatic harmonica (because it has obviously a slider) we do NOT list is under chromatic harmonicas in order to not confuse players.  But we do also not present is as octave harmonica because it isn´t an octave harmonica either.

The idea to make the SAMPLE came after we had discontinued the so called  double-sided tremolo harmonica that we used to offer ( Mountain Harp or Bergzauber).  Old players know those from the past and liked the idea to have two harmonicas in one instrument.  However, those models were tremolo harmonicas an that´s why those older players would look for such kind of harmonicas in the tremolo category.   But as I mentioned, it is not a tremolo harmonica,  but it would need a new category for the SAMPLER.  Therefore we present is as specialty.

We have the harmonica out on the market for more than 10 years already and it never reached a big popularity and is not well known.  The market seems to be very small , so we do not really push it.  It´s an instrument for specialists who look for something like this.

Very nice harmonica!

Mind you, I'm still a newbie. I recently fell under the spell of Brendan Power and ordered (and am really enjoying) his books and CDs for learning Irish music on diatonic and on C-chromatic. I ordered the G/D Sampler to have the two most common Irish keys in one package, and the harmonica is a fun addition to my rather basic arsenal. It's basically like having two high-quality solo-tuned 12-holes that switch back and forth just with the button, tho' the key switch when you hit the button adds some interesting embellishments to certain note patterns. Very solidly built, nice bright sound, consistent volume and playability over all the reeds, and a slide that appears to be pretty much stick-free. This is only my second Seydel harmonica, but I'm already getting the sense that they build very high quality instruments.

Also, this is the fifth time I've bought a harmonica from Rockin' Ron. Whether he has shipped directly from stock, or via Rupert Oysler's Seydel USA operation in North Carolina, delivery has been very, very prompt, with emails to keep me advised of where the order was in the system. One can see why so many on-line harmonica teachers recommend Rockin' Ron's operation.
