My most recent order led to a (probably computer-generated) email asking for a review. So I'm reviewing the Lee Oskar reedplates that were part of that order. (Ab major diatonic.) It's been nearly 10 years since I was the first on this site to post a review of Lee Oskar's Model #1910 major diatonic harps, and noted that they were the Ford F-150 pickup truck of harmonicas. E.g., always dependably get the job done, without being flashy. In the past 10 years I've picked up a number of Lee Oskar harmonicas in various keys, swapped reedplates, installed custom combs, purchased various tunings for various uses, and generally had fun fooling around with them. It's now been 42 years since then quality issues with other makers (issues that have since been corrected - big time) sent Oskar looking for a better harp, and led to his partnering up with Japan's Tombo family. And it's been 42 years of consistent high quality and good value. The Lee Oskar is a harmonica I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to a beginner, while at the same time it's definitely pro performer quality. And nothing will boost your playing enthusiasm more than trying out a new set of reedplates, perhaps in a tuning or key you've never played before.
Add to that, having met and corresponded with Mr. Oskar, and having followed his musical and artistic journey, there's a little bit of that good Lee Oskar mojo in every one of his harps that I play. He's definitely one of the world's really good people, and his love of the harmonica and good music is just part of that.
Finally, re my recent order: Ron always has (or can find) what you need, at a good price, with your shipment going out his door immediately. Rockin' Ron's is without a doubt the best place to buy harmonicas and related gear, and you'll never need to look anywhere else.
