Beyond the bend: a new standard in harmonica excellence.

Before the Blues Game Changer, if you wanted to play chromatically (as in, if you wanted to be able to get all the sharps/flats) you needed to get a chromatic harmonica.  The problem for diatonic players is that a chromatic is Solo tuned, meaning the notes are laid out differently than a Richter tuned diatonic; so for a diatonic player, learning to play a chromatic is like learning a second language.  Furthermore, chromatics take more air than diatonics, AND they’re clumsy and awkward to bend.  Chromatic manufacturers try to solve that by adding irritating, plastic wind savers to make the harmonica more air-efficient, but then you can hear the wind savers flapping.  Most diatonic players think chromatic harmonicas are real pigs – they take too much air, they fight you on the bends, they’re not as bluesy sounding, and they make flapping noises.  The Blues Game Changer solves all of that!

The Blues Game Changer is laid out exactly like a regular, 10-hole diatonic harmonica, but it has a button that, when pressed, sharpens whichever note you’re on by ½ a step; which gives you the sharps and flats when and where you need them.  And having a button that accesses the exact sharp/flat you need is much better – cleaner and more accurate – than bending.  Bending notes works great for the blues, or any music where coming in flat or sharp and quickly adjusting to the right pitch actually sounds cool, but if you try that on a song like “Beautiful Dreamer”, for example, not hitting that flat note precisely will sound like a fart in church!  And don’t be fooled, even Joe Filisko and Howard Levy need a moment to hear where they’re at on the bend before they’re perfect.  The button allows the player to precisely hit the accidentals.  With the Blues Game Changer, an average diatonic player can hit sharps and flats more cleanly and precisely than the best bending harmonica players in the world!  The Game Changer has no wind savers flapping in the wind; it’s the most efficient, easy-bending harmonica I’ve ever played! It’s a little bigger than a 10 hole diatonic, but it’s much smaller than a chromatic…and it’s easier to play.  The Blues Game Changer has a light blue comb.

The Game Changer has an Equal Temperament.

Best of both worlds

Early on ,learning Richter tuned diatonic I discovered its limitations in not being able to play the complete chromatic scale. ( without the overblow technique , which I could never sufficiently master). As a blues guy it wasn’t too much of a problem. And you could work around it playing different positions. I thought “wouldn’t it be great if they could put a slide button on a regular diatonic?” So I bought a Hohner Koch harmonica which did that. It was pretty unplayable. Big, clunky. The worst of both worlds. As time went on I started craving a bigger repertoire than blues. Eventually I had a jazz/ standards band and had to go whole hog on chromatic. It was like learning a second language. So, a blues band on diatonic and a jazz band on chromatic . And again I asked myself “wouldn’t it be great if…” Well now my prayers have been answered . This is truly the best of both worlds. It’s only slightly larger than a diatonic. Not so much a regular player will find it a problem. It plays great. I can even get overblows (now that I don’t need to!) Any given note might be played in 2, 3, even 4 different combinations of blow, draw, bend, button in or out. Which is a little intimidating. But with a little work you kinda figure out which works best for any given song . I’m sold on this!
