Where melodies are born.

Our Bushman Blues Shifter Game Changer is the most versatile, useful, harmonica ever made!  The standard note layout of most diatonic harmonicas is very limited melodically since it’s missing the vital 6th note of the scale.  In the case of a C harmonica that note is an A which should be on blow 3, but in the standard layout, the blow 3 is a G.  Missing that A renders about 60% of songs out of reach for harmonica players.  The Blues Shifter solves that and gives players the notes they need to be able to play any melody they want!  And it does all of that while still feeling, playing, and performing like a traditional blues harmonica when the slide is not pushed in…thus the name, Blues Shifter – because with the push of a button, it “shifts” from being a regular blues harmonica, to a melody playing machine!  Available in 6 Keys:  C, A, D, G, Bb, and Low F.

Howard Levy might say that he doesn’t need a Blues Shifter because he can bend the draw 3 down to get the A, but people with good ears can hear when he does that because A is wedged in between 2 other possible bends on draw 3; above it is Bb and below it is Ab so to find the A, Howard has to bend the note, then make an instantaneous adjustment up from Ab or down from Bb and land perfectly on the A all while staying on beat.  Like I said, many of us can hear the blip of imperfection when he does this, but even if he gets lucky and lands the bend precisely, he can’t beat someone who is able to land the perfect note with the push of a button!  Plus, 99% of harmonica players can’t do what Howard can anyway; I’m one of them, and I like having the precision of a button.  For years, I was disappointed that I couldn’t play the beautiful song, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” in the lower register b/c I didn’t have that A.  And if I play it on the upper register, I lose the rich, supporting chords, and it’s too shrill (high) unless I have a low tuned harp on hand.  The Blues Shifter solves that.  To get the A, just push the button on blow 3; now you can play the song in the lower register, and you still have the beautiful chords to add richness to your performance.  There are literally infinite melodies that fall into this scenario that the Blues Shifter can tackle while at the same time remaining an awesome bending, easy playing blues harmonica.  And it’s the only 10 hole harmonica ever made on which you can play 3 full diatonic scales without bending a single note!  That means that almost any song ever written can be played on it.  Harmonica players have been needing the Blues Shifter for 204 years!  From blues bars, to jazz clubs, to churches, to family reunions, to concert stages, the Blues Shifter truly is a Game Changer.  It’s the go-anywhere, play-anything harmonica that fits our Bushman motto, “Dream it, Play it”.

Almost perfect layout

Not the same as Trochilus Richter tuning. They both add the ability to play chromatic notes while maintaining the blues tone and feel. The Blues Shifter, though, maintains the layout of the standard blues harp and includes the 2nd note of the scale in cross harp using the button.
This allows you to play the major pentatonic scale. You can play Dead Flowers, Wonderful Tonight, Sunshine of Your Love, Black Betty, Every Mother’s Son, I’d Rather Go Blind, Amazing Grace (in cross harp), You Were Always on my Mind.
You can play 2 octaves of the entire minor scale in 4th position. The 2nd note of the scale in cross harp is the 1st note of the scale in 4th position. Not great for minor blues but for something like Must be the Whiskey by Cody Jinks it is great.
You also have both the minor and major seventh notes in cross harp. Many country tunes and ballads have a major seventh chord. Take me Home Country Roads, Just the Way you Are, Crazy, Something.
If you play in a key with the button pushed in you can get the flatted notes by releasing the button. This is a Steve Wonder trick on his earlier blues/jazz pieces.
The Blues Shifter combines the standard blues harp, the paddy tuned harp, and the country tuned harp in one harmonica. Branch out while keeping your blues soul.

Thanks for the nice review, Cliff!
